How it all began — Our Story
GYSA was founded in late 2024, sparked by a simple yet urgent need: community events tailored for Greek youth. For too long, young Greeks in South Australia struggled to find each other, and the cultural spark that once burned brightly had begun to fade.
Enter Anthony Hagidimitriou, a former president of the Adelaide University Greek Club (AUGC), who saw this gap and dreamed of change. Over a meeting with Demetre Bougessis and Victoria Paneras, Anthony shared his vision for “Greek Youth of South Australia” (GYSA), a new hub for connection. Their response was immediate: “If you do this, we’re in.”
Not long after, a dinner with Athanasios (Athan) Rodas sealed the deal, with Athan echoing the same enthusiasm. From that core group of four, GYSA was born — a non-profit built on passion, unity, and a shared love for Greek heritage.

At GYSA, our mission is to provide a welcoming “place to go” for Greek youth — a space where they can meet, relate, and feel comfortable surrounded by people who share their roots. We’re committed to keeping the Greek culture alive through social and cultural events that honour tradition while embracing modernity. Whether you’re a university student, a young professional, or simply someone who loves Greek culture, GYSA is your community.
